Inspirational Quote of the Day 8/31/11 - Powered by Famous Inspirational Quotes for Windows Phone

"Não adianta olhar para o céu com muita fé e pouca luta." - Gabriel Pensador
"Don't look to heaven with a lot of faith and then not put up a fight."
Great quote from a Brazilian master of words. This is from a very emotional song that exploits the volatility of the human state. Life is tough every single day for some of us here on the earth. In Brazil most people turn to God, which is a strength of their nation. However, if faith becomes acquiescence then nothing will ever change; and God created men and women so that they might change for the better.

So if you're feeling defeated lift your head up. Look to Deity for guidance then get at it. Don't wait for answers from God, find answers from God in the midst of your work. Good luck in your job search or in whatever this might inspire you.

Inspirational Quote of the Day 8/25/11 - Powered by Famous Inspirational Quotes for Windows Phone

"Success is the ability to go from failure to failure without losing your enthusiasm." - Winston Churchill
Isn't that the hardest part of life? Enthusiasm is contagious. As Churchill showed, it can lift a nation. The first part of that war was nothing but failure for Churchill. Before he was Prime Minister he was part of the government that blinded the Brits into not seeing the real Hitler. Then he failed miserably in his military strategy to secure the North Sea and Norway. The Nazis captured naval dominance and occupied Norway. The list could go on.

Yet we don't remember Churchill for that. We remember him as the stalwart that never failed in enthusiasm and hope for a better world. So the question is, how will you be remembered?

Inspirational Quote of the Day 8/24/11 - Powered by Famous Inspirational Quotes for Windows Phone

"Be not afraid of greatness: some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them." - William Shakespeare
Be grateful for the tough times. This quote reminds me of how I have arrived to this point in my career. I spent countless hours trying to figure out what I want to do with my life. I worked so many jobs just because they happened to fall in my lap. I felt for years that I was trapped by "the man" and wished that Jack Black would intervene and tell them to "step off!, step off!"

Anyway, now that I'm finally doing something that I love and that I'm successful at I realize that those tough times helped make me who I am. So no matter how suppressed you feel, keep fighting because it just may be that greatness is being thrust upon you.

Inspirational Quote of the Day 8/22/11 - Powered by Famous Inspirational Quotes for Windows Phone

"It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live." - J.K. Rowling
Interesting quote coming from a fiction writer. If all you do is think about your dream job or dream about what life would be like if you had an exorbitant amount of money, then you will miss out on the chance to actually achieve it.

Dream big, but while you're dreaming make sure you are taking physical steps to accomplish that dream. And don't forget to enjoy the process along the way.

Inspirational Quote of the Day 8/19/11 - Powered by Famous Inspirational Quotes for Windows Phone

"Heaven helps the man who fights his fear." - Kenny Loggins
No one can deny the awesomeness of Footloose. Filmed here in Utah, it is a symbol of rebellion, standing up for what you believe and overcoming preconceived notions. That frustration from suppression is never more present than in Kenny Loggins song I'm Free.

Check out this song and listen to the lyrics - if you dig 80s music. They're inspiring for anyone who is feeling down or letting their fears get the best of them. Don't let the job hunt bring you down. Take feed back and implement it, but don't let it hurt your feelings. Self pity is a self fulfilling prophecy; you will end up in a self pit of despair that you dug yourself. Don't dig your own grave. Stay on top no matter what. Even if you have to listen to Kenny Loggins all day.

Inspirational Quote of the Day 8/16/11 - Powered by Famous Inspirational Quotes for Windows Phone

"Insanity is doing the same thing, over and over again, but expecting different results." - Albert Einstein
This quote has become somewhat of a cliché in sales to try to help people see that they need to change. Despite that, the quote has it's merit. You should definitely pay attention to anything pensive that Albert Einstein says.

If you've been looking for a job for a longer period than you'd like or if it feels like you send out resume after resume with no results then it's time to change. Take a resume class. Find one of a million blogs on job search tips. Ask a few friends or acquaintances who are rich and/or successful if they'll look at your resume and give some suggestions. Go down to the local LDS Employment Center. There are locations all over the world.

Go here to find one:

If you feel these frustrations, do something to shake things up. We are all children of God, which means we have an inherent power to change. Don't drive yourself insane. Change.

Inspirational Quote of the Day 8/15/11 - Powered by Famous Inspirational Quotes for Windows Phone

"Do we need more time? Or do we need to be more disciplined with the time we have?" - Dr. Kerry Johnson
Dr. Kerry Johnson is a successful author, speaker and business coach. The greatest thing about this quote is the power that comes from living it. When you start really striving to get more done in less time (without diminishing the quality of your work) you feel empowered, excited and accomplished.

If you're are looking for a job it can seem a lonely road. Set an agenda. Involve others so they can help hold you accountable. Get active and set some goals of companies you want to contact. Now the next week, strive to get more done. As you do this, you will become excited about your own capabilities. This will start to show up in the quality of resume as you customize it for each position you apply for. It will manifest itself in your interviews because you will be more confident. I encourage all of us to hold ourselves to a higher standard of productivity. You'll notice a difference in yourself. More importantly others will also.

Inspirational Quote of the Day 8/12/11 - Powered by Famous Inspirational Quotes for Windows Phone

"Sometimes it's better to just move on." - Tom Dickson

Yesterday I had the opportunity to attend a joint event with the Utah Technology Council, the Utah Valley Entrepreneur Forum and few other venture capital organizations. The keynote speaker was YouTube sensation Tom Dickson, famous for his "Will it Blend?" films.

It turns out Tom is a good Christian LDS guy from the Bay Area. He is a brilliant engineer that has created several inventions included his patented blenders for his company BlendTec. He had some great words of wisdom, including the above quote. Specifically, he got into several law suites to prevent others from stealing his patents. When going up against a scrappy company with no money that tried to steal his patent, he decided that he might end up wasting his life and money fighting a battle that will have no reward. "Sometimes it's better to just move on."

On the flip side, the movie Flash of Genius tells the story of Robert Kearns who fought his whole life to protect his patent against Ford. He prevailed in the end but it was after 40 years of fighting in the which he lost his wife, children and most everything he had.

Along these lines, you should check out this year's ESPYs award of courage to Dewey Bozella:

In life we all have a choice. We can be angry and vengeful towards those who try to wrong us. We can waste away our lives obsessed with getting back, even and revenge. Or we can choose to move on.
